🏘️ The 600lb phone that holds us back

This past week was a tip-top week because I got to host my mom. She traveled in from Oklahoma and I can unequivocally say that she is one of my favorite people! We recorded a podcast, ate a lot of good food, and shared many laughs.

We were eating cookies from a local bakery and we were both talking about how grateful we were to be together. We expressed how it’s much easier to connect in-person than over the phone, and she mentioned how sometimes she can’t even pick her phone up because it weighs 600 pounds.

Hearing this, I was like, “huh?” And she started laughing. She explained that there are a lot of times where she feels so in her world that it’s hard to reach out to someone else, and because of that, she can’t lift the phone up to give someone a call. Almost as if the phone weighed 600lbs.

I have thought about that phrase since our conversation. It definitely can be hard to reach out to others sometimes. It can feel like we’re too busy or they’re too busy. But it’s a good reminder to know that you can lift the phone and both parties will be better when you reach out.

Also, there’s another reality where we feel like we can put our phone down because it’s so addictive. It’s a paradox: we have a hard time picking the phone up to reach out and we have a hard time putting the phone down when we’re sucked in.

Push through when your phone feels like 600lbs. It truly weighs less than one pound!
