👯‍♂️ 102 tips to make friends as an adult (serious)

We’ve all been there. We leave college, we leave our hometown, and then we’re in a new city with strangers.

You’re in a new place and you need new friends. I gotchu.

I’ve been there. I am there! But, here’s a HUGE list of ways to initiate hanging out with someone. Here are some of my favorites:

  • Eat meals outside when you can instead of eating in your car.

  • Try a new activity like rollerblading, cooking, or hiking.

  • Sign up for tours when you’re traveling!

đź’ˇ Expertise in communication is not one-time

Most things that are worthwhile are never one-time episodes.

I was watching a video of Simon Sinek explaining why leadership is not a one-time thing, rather it’s a collection of actions over time (you can watch it here).

For instance, imagine being a good friend. That’s not a one-time thing, it’s a product of showing up again and again. Helping someone move, listening to them vent, and buying them their favorite snack.

Being a good communicator is similar. It’s not a one-time achievement. It’s consistently asking open ended questions and listening to the answer, being intentional about how you sequence your words, and choosing the best time to speak up.

Don’t be discouraged. Just keep doing something.
